Ramadan is not only a month of fasting and worship but also a time to help the poor and needy. Charity and almsgiving are not only a means of earning Allah's pleasure but also serve to promote social justice and brotherhood. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
"Charity wards off a bad death and cools the anger of Allah." (Tirmidhi)
The Importance of Charity (Sadqa)
Giving charity is a means of spiritual development for Muslims:
- Charity brings blessings to wealth and erases sins.
- It fulfills the needs of the poor and needy.
- Giving charity softens the heart and increases the spirit of humanity.
The Virtue of Almsgiving (Khairat)
Almsgiving is a means of social justice and equality:
- Almsgiving helps eliminate poverty and neediness.
- It fosters unity and brotherhood within the community.
- Giving alms brings Allah's mercy and shields one from the fire of Hell.
Common Acts of Charity and Almsgiving During Ramadan
During Ramadan, Muslims engage in charity and almsgiving to earn Allah's pleasure:
- Giving Fitrah so that even the poor can join in the happiness of Eid.
- Supporting mosques and madrasas for the promotion of the deen (religion).
- Helping the needy and orphans with education and upbringing.
